$750 per part time week (Approximately 21 hours/week)
$1500 per full time week (Approximately 42 hours/week)
Work Format: A combination of in-person work at Guild Park & Gardens, remote administrative work, and occasional touring/off-site coordination.
Guild Festival Theatre (GFT) invites applications for the position of Director of Production. Reporting to the General Manager and working in close partnership with the Artistic Director, the Director of Production is a senior leadership role responsible for the financial, technical, and operational delivery of GFT’s 2026 summer season at Guild Park & Gardens.
The successful candidate will merge high-level production management (budgeting, scheduling, and labor relations) with hands-on technical direction (construction oversight, site safety, and equipment management).
Key Responsibilities
I. Strategic Planning & Financial Management
Budgetary Oversight: Prepare and manage comprehensive production and labor budgets; oversee all production costs including materials, equipment acquisitions, and specialized rentals to ensure fiscal responsibility.
Master Scheduling: Develop and maintain the season’s master production schedule, integrating rehearsal calls, load-in/strike windows, and performance cycles to optimize time management across all departments.
Contractual Liaison: Manage technical requirements for guest artists and community partners; coordinate hosting and touring logistics to ensure smooth multi-venue operations.
II. Technical Direction & Season Delivery
Site & Venue Leadership: Lead the physical installation (load-in) and removal (strike) of all production elements; oversee the daily technical set-up and maintenance of sound and lighting systems in the outdoor environment of Guild Park.
Logistics & Procurement: Coordinate all production departments (Set, Props, Wardrobe, Audio, LX); source and acquire all necessary materials and equipment, managing the lifecycle of rentals from acquisition to return.
Labor Relations & Supervision: Schedule, and supervise technical staff and volunteers; provide mentorship and training to ensure a high standard of professional execution for both in-person and remote work.
Lead Safety Officer: Serve as the primary authority for Health & Safety protocols onsite; ensure all technical installations and working practices comply with provincial standards and GFT’s safety policies.
Qualifications
Mid-career Experience: 5+ years in production management or technical direction, with a proven ability to lead a department and manage complex budgets.
Technical Expertise: Strong proficiency in technical theatre systems, with specific experience in outdoor theatre or unconventional venues highly preferred.
Administrative Skill: Advanced proficiency in project management software, labor scheduling, and budget tracking.
Leadership: Excellent communication skills with a focus on collaboration and mentorship. Familiarity with Canadian professional theatre labor agreements (CAEA, ADC) is an asset.
