Message from the Artistic Director

The Guild Festival Theatre returns in 2017 with the 1773 play She Stoops to Conquer by British playwright Oliver Goldsmith. This classic comedy features an empowered young woman taking control over her oppressed societal status in cunning and witty ways. In a similar vein to Hollywood’s popular wedding-themed comedies, She Stoops to Conquer symbolizes the fight for freedom of expression with heart and riotous humour.

This theme seems particularly appropriate for the 150th anniversary of the creation of Canada. Additionally, with nightly wedding receptions booked all summer long in the brand new neighbouring banquet hall, our choice of this play will surely harmonize beautifully with the exciting revitalized Guild Park facilities surrounding our stage. Our triumphant 2017 return will also coincide with the 85th Anniversary of Guild of All Arts
